This season, quarterback Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers put up MVP-caliber numbers through the air, but as a rusher, no one will compare him with Lamar Jackson or even Daniel Jones.

This previous season, Purdy carried the ball 39 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns, good for a pitiful average of 3.7 yards per carry.

Purdy did, however, run 14 times for 74 yards throughout the playoffs, or 5.3 yards per tote.

On his Steve Young Show, former 49ers quarterback Steve Young expressed his strong opinion that Purdy should invest more time in developing into a dual threat.

“I’m not the biggest, I’m not the fastest, and I’m not the strongest,” Purdy said to you following the NFC Championship Game. Said Young. He is essentially saying, ‘I’m going to do it my way.'” And I’ll focus largely on retail. Put otherwise, “Give me a great play.” Give me a few outstanding players. I’ll also light you up. Is that correct? The great majority of the game is spent using his superpower, which I just explained.

Young is a quarterback with extensive experience in running with the football; over his remarkable NFL career, he amassed 4,239 rushing yards.

“However, there’s a significant portion of the game where he will need to learn how to match,” Young went on. “If we’re discussing the Super Bowl. if we’re discussing football championships. if we’re discussing football in January and February. It will be up to him and Kyle [Shanahan] to find out how to get him out of the huddle as the eleventh player.

49ers’ Legend Has Strong Advice For Brock Purdy

Young knows a thing or two about winning in this league, having started for San Francisco in the 1994–1995 Super Bowl and going on to win seven Pro Bowls and three First-Team All-Pro accolades.

As Purdy appears to be the kind of player who welcomes constructive criticism, it will be interesting to watch if he pays attention to Young’s counsel in 2024.

Of course, that’s a whole different situation when it comes to whether or not Brock Purdy can truly develop into a credible dual threat.

  1. Having read this I thought it was rather enlightening. I appreciate you taking the time and energy to put this information together. I once again find myself personally spending a significant amount of time both reading and posting comments. But so what, it was still worthwhile!

  2. Howdy would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using? I’m going to start my own blog soon but I’m having a hard time making a decision between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique. P.S Sorry for being off-topic but I had to ask!
