Scarlets bowed out of this season’s European Challenge Cup with a 31-19 defeat to Edinburgh at Parc y Scarlets.

Edinburgh took command of the game early on and maintained control throughout, securing their place in the knockout stages. Centre Joe Roberts scored a first-half try, and replacement wing Tomi Lewis added late tries for Scarlets. Despite tries from Ryan Conbeer and a penalty try, Scarlets struggled to overcome the penalty count.

Scarlets faced an uphill battle after conceding two close-range tries early in the game, with scrum-half Ben Vellacott and prop WP Nel finding the mark. Although Scarlets attempted a comeback with a try from Joe Roberts, Edinburgh remained resilient.

Edinburgh, in need of a bonus-point win to advance, continued to dominate. Full-back Emiliano Boffelli set up Duhan van der Merwe for a third try, and Hamish Watson scored a bonus-point try at the posts. Despite Edinburgh’s co-captain Grant Gilchrist receiving a yellow card, Scarlets couldn’t break through their defense.

Trailing 26-5, Scarlets faced a challenging second half. Lock Alex Craig’s yellow card made their task even tougher, and Pierre Schoeman’s try from a line-out extended Edinburgh’s lead. Scarlets struggled against Edinburgh’s solid defense, and despite Tomi Lewis’s spirited run, they couldn’t breach the opposition.

Grant Gilchrist received a second yellow card for a high challenge on 72 minutes, but Scarlets’ efforts were in vain. Tomi Lewis was held up over the line, and in the final minutes, Ryan Conbeer scored a consolation try. An attack from deep saw Edinburgh reduced to 13 players, but the match concluded with Scarlets unable to overturn the deficit.
