Could the Boston Red Sox potentially add a veteran power hitter with a World Series MVP accolade to their roster this offseason?

According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, that’s a possibility. In a column released Thursday, USA Today tasked its MLB writers and editors with predicting the destinations for the most notable remaining free agents. Nightengale, a seasoned insider in the league, foresees a significant move by Boston, specifically a signing of Jorge Soler.

“The Red Sox have been relatively quiet all winter (with the only noise being the fanbase screaming for action) but the unrest should at least be momentarily subdued with a Soler signing,” Nightengale wrote.

In a recent Bleacher Report livestream, Jon Heyman from The New York Post expressed that he wasn’t ruling out the possibility of Jorge Soler signing with the Boston Red Sox. The same consideration was given to former Red Sox slugger J.D. Martinez, who is coming off an All-Star season with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Given that Justin Turner has recently departed to join the Toronto Blue Jays and the uncertainty surrounding Adam Duvall’s return in 2024, there is a perceived need for more power in the middle of Boston’s lineup. If the Red Sox, led by Craig Breslow and company, manage to secure the services of Soler or Martinez, it would be a strategic move to address this apparent gap in the team.
