The age-old saying in professional sports holds true: winning tends to overshadow everything else. This appears to be the prevailing sentiment in Titletown this offseason.

Following a victorious season where the Green Bay Packers defied expectations to secure a playoff round victory, there seems to be a sense of satisfaction with the current roster, despite the controversies surrounding certain key players.

A significant point of interest in the Packers’ offseason plans was the status of cornerback Jaire Alexander and his future with the team. Present indications strongly suggest that the Pro Bowl cornerback will be returning for the 2024 season.

Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst addressed the organization’s status in a press conference on Thursday, delving into various topics, including the future of cornerback Jaire Alexander.

Alexander faced challenges in the 2023 season due to injuries and raised concerns when he received a suspension for conduct detrimental to the team towards the end of the year. His self-appointment as captain in the Week 16 matchup against the Panthers led to him missing the subsequent game against the Vikings. Head coach Matt LaFleur indicated that Alexander’s actions were not isolated, stating, “it’s never just one thing,” causing unease among Packers fans who feared the possible departure of their star cornerback.

However, recent developments suggest a potential easing of tensions between the two parties. The financial implications of parting ways with Alexander could be a significant factor, given the substantial base dead cap that would limit the Packers’ financial flexibility. In the previous year, Green Bay and Alexander had entered into a four-year, $84 million deal. Retaining Alexander is a more viable option for the Packers, given the financial constraints associated with releasing him. As the 2024 season unfolds, there is hope for a fresh start in the relationship between the team and Alexander.
