On Wednesday, the Seattle Seahawks ushered in a new chapter by officially appointing Mike Macdonald as their next head coach.

Having served as the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens in the past two seasons, Macdonald played a pivotal role in leading a Ravens defense that topped the NFL in points per game allowed (16.5) during the regular season this year.

Roquan Smith is one of several players who experienced notable improvement under Macdonald’s coaching. Demonstrating versatility from coverage to run defense, Smith evolved into a versatile linebacker over the last two seasons.

The Seahawks’ official account, X, shared a post on Friday featuring three Ravens players bidding a farewell to Macdonald. In this context, Smith took a moment to express gratitude to Macdonald for his significant contributions during their time together with the Ravens.

“Mike, I’m genuinely thrilled for you,” Smith expressed. “I recognize the tireless effort you put in day in and day out to achieve results. It’s a bit sad and bittersweet to see you leave because I had anticipated many more years together. It feels like a significant part of me is departing with you to Seattle. Nonetheless, I am genuinely excited for you, bro. I’m confident that you and your wife will thrive up there, and you’ll find immense joy. Seahawks Nation, or whatever you guys call it, is fortunate to have you, and I’m certain they will excel. Wishing you much love and respect, my guy.”

The Ravens swiftly identified Mike Macdonald’s successor, announcing Zachary Orr as their new defensive coordinator on Thursday. Orr previously held the position of inside linebackers coach for the past two seasons in Baltimore.
