GREEN BAY, Wisconsin: A well-known figure is making a comeback to the Green Bay Packers. Football Scoop reports that former Packers receiver Myles White is joining head coach Matt LaFleur’s staff as an assistant receivers coach. White joined the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana Tech in 2013 and caught seven catches for 88 yards and his only touchdown with the Giants in 2015. He was a CFL player as well. Before serving as the receivers coach and passing-game coordinator at Miami (Ohio) for the past two seasons, White worked as a quality-control coach at SMU in 2019 and 2020 and as an inside receivers coach at Stephen F. Austin in 2021.

He was chosen for the 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute in December by the American Football Coaches Association. This esteemed program “aims to identify and develop premier, future leaders in the football coaching profession.” The Packers cut White at the conclusion of training camp in 2015 in order to make room for James Jones to rejoin the squad. He opted to sign with the Giants rather than join Green Bay’s practice squad.

At the conclusion of the preseason, White stated, “If they have to cut me, I just want them to have to look the other way if they do it.” And if they did, I believe that would be the circumstance. I believe I accomplished enough, and I have a lot of confidence in my abilities. Of course, there are plays that I could have made earlier in the preseason. But you can’t make them all in football, and I think I wrapped up these last two weeks very well.

When White first entered the NFL, speed was his main asset. He didn’t think the Packers had enough, so he signed with them. At the time, White remarked, “I looked at the Packers’ roster and they have a lot of big-guy, possession receivers.” “I believe I can be a burner in there, someone who can catch 50-yard bombs and flip the defense.” I have dedicated my entire career to that. It’s just an amazing circumstance. The best quarterback in the league is the one you have. (Reversing course) Eddie Lacy just entered. An excellent defense. I wish to share in its magnificence.

After LaFleur hired former NFL quarterback Sean Mannion last week, White is the second former player to join the offensive staff. Similar to what happened with Mannion, this could be an instance of LaFleur anticipating future coaching losses. In the next year or two, Jason Vrable, the coordinator of the passing game and receivers coach, may be considered for an offensive coordinator position.
