If LeBron decides not to exercise his $51.4 million player option with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2024–25, he will be free to sign with any team this offseason.

At this year’s trade deadline, the Warriors reportedly approached the Lakers in an attempt to acquire LeBron, according to NBA insiders Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN. Nevertheless, LeBron and the Lakers have little interest in a Warriors deal.

LeBron and Draymond Green, the forward for the Warriors, are good friends and represent the same agency, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group. LeBron and Golden State player Stephen Curry have gotten along well over time, despite their intense rivalry during LeBron’s second stay with the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2014–15 to 2017–18.

Curry has a 3-1 record against LeBron in their four NBA Finals matchups. With the assistance of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, LeBron led the Cavaliers to the 2016 NBA Finals. In the Finals, Cleveland became the first team in NBA history to come back from a 3-1 series deficit.

LeBron James’s free agency this offseason allows the Warriors to sign him directly. Golden State would have to forfeit players and selections in order to acquire The Akron Hammer, though, if he exercises his player option.

LeBron, 39, is shooting 52.0% from the field, 39.5% from beyond the arc, and 74.1% from the free-throw line this season while averaging 24.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 7.8 assists.

The Chosen One is still a formidable force in the NBA despite being the oldest player.

In the Western Conference standings, the Lakers and Warriors are ranked ninth and tenth, respectively. The seasons for both teams have been poor.

The NBA would be in major trouble if Curry and LeBron teamed up on the Warriors. Together, the two legends would probably take home at least one title.
