The Boston Red Sox are anxiously awaiting updates on the status of critical bullpen asset Chris Martin, who left the field abruptly on Saturday after only throwing two warmup pitches before live batting practice.

The Boston Red Sox are currently facing challenges with injuries to key bullpen pitchers, including Kenley Jansen and now Chris Martin. Martin, a 37-year-old veteran, had an outstanding season with Boston in 2023, boasting a 4-1 record with a remarkable 1.05 ERA across 55 games. Throughout his eight-year career, Martin has played for several teams, exclusively serving as a reliever in all of his 324 career appearances.

With a lifetime record of 13-17 and a 3.36 ERA, Martin has also accumulated 12 career saves and could potentially be in line for more save opportunities with the Red Sox if Jansen is unavailable for the start of the season on March 28th.

The Red Sox are aiming to rebound from a disappointing performance last season, where they finished last in the American League East for the third time in four years. However, their aspirations may face additional hurdles with injuries affecting key players like Jansen, Martin, Lucas Giolito, and Vaughn Grissom.
