Michigan has added another staff member who has ties to the Baltimore Ravens.

After clinching the national title in January, the Michigan football team has experienced a bustling offseason marked by numerous coaching adjustments. Former head coach Jim Harbaugh departed to lead the Los Angeles Chargers, leaving Sherrone Moore as the new head coach for the Wolverines. Moore has been actively recruiting new staff, and his recent addition is former Baltimore Ravens standout defensive lineman Pernell McPhee.

Pernell McPhee is set to join the Michigan football staff in a defensive support staff position. McPhee, who last played for the Baltimore Ravens in 2021, brings a wealth of experience and familiarity with the defensive style of play utilized by the Wolverines.

“Michigan is poised to bring on board former NFL standout defensive lineman Pernell McPhee in a defensive support staff role, according to sources,” tweeted Matt Zenitz. “McPhee, an alumnus of Mississippi State, enjoyed an 11-season career in the NFL. He has long been favored by new Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, who previously coached him during their time with the Baltimore Ravens.”

Michigan’s hiring of Pernell McPhee is seen as a positive move, especially given the strong ties between the Wolverines and the Baltimore Ravens. This connection has been notable in recent years, with past defensive coordinators and now Wink Martindale, the new DC, all having Ravens affiliations. Although Jim Harbaugh has moved on from Michigan, the bond with his brother John Harbaugh, the Ravens’ head coach, remains robust.

Sherrone Moore’s efforts in assembling the Michigan football staff have been commendable. While the team faces significant challenges in replacing coaches and players for the upcoming season, the offseason has seen strategic hires aimed at maintaining the team’s competitive edge. Defending their national title will undoubtedly be a tough task, but Michigan aims to avoid any major setbacks under Moore’s leadership, supported by these well-thought-out staffing decisions.
