The Houston Texans’ bold move to acquire All-Pro wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills sends a clear message to their AFC South rival, the Indianapolis Colts: they’re aiming not just for divisional success but for championship contention.

By trading a 2025 second-round pick along with additional selections, the Texans have significantly strengthened their offensive firepower, complementing quarterback C.J. Stroud and receiver Nico Collins. This aggressive approach follows their playoff qualification last season, where they outperformed the Colts in a critical regular-season finale.

In contrast, the Colts’ offseason acquisitions have been relatively modest, with backup quarterback Joe Flacco being the most notable addition. With the Texans showing urgency in bolstering their roster, the Colts must adopt a similar mindset, especially in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.

With seven draft picks, including the 15th overall selection, the Colts have the opportunity to address their need for playmakers around second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson. Considering the depth of talent in the receiver class, they could target a pass catcher like LSU’s Brian Thomas Jr. or a tight end such as Brock Bowers in the first round.

Alternatively, they might opt to select a cornerback early and address the receiving corps in the second round. Regardless of their strategy, it’s imperative for the Colts to emerge from the draft with enhanced offensive weapons to keep pace with the Texans’ formidable lineup.

As of now, the Colts’ receiving corps includes Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, and others, while their tight end group features Jelani Woods and Kylen Granson. With the 2024 NFL Draft on the horizon, the Colts have a chance to reshape their roster and fortify their competitiveness in the AFC South.
