The 2023-24 NHL season has been a triumphant one for the Bruins despite facing the departure of several key players during the offseason. Despite these losses, they have maintained their position as one of the top teams in the league standings.

Looking ahead, the Bruins have reason to be optimistic about the upcoming offseason. With over $20 million in available cap space, they have the flexibility to make significant moves in the free agency market. Players such as Matt Grzelcyk, Kevin Shattenkirk, Derek Forbort, and James van Riemsdyk are set to become free agents, opening up opportunities for the Bruins to bolster their roster with impactful signings.

Certainly, the Bruins have key priorities to address in the offseason, including securing contracts for Jeremy Swayman and Jake DeBrusk. Despite these signings, they anticipate having sufficient cap space to pursue significant additions through free agency.

One notable target on the Bruins’ radar is defenseman Noah Hanifin from the Vegas Golden Knights, a player who has long been of interest to the team. Known for his defensive prowess, Hanifin could provide a much-needed boost to the Bruins’ left side. Alternatively, Brady Skjei could be a viable option if Hanifin is not available.

In addition to addressing their defensive needs, the Bruins are also looking to bolster their center depth. Players such as Steven Stamkos, Elias Lindholm, Matt Duchene, Sean Monahan, and Chandler Stephenson are among the top targets in this regard.

To further enhance their financial flexibility, the Bruins may consider trading Linus Ullmark, who carries a $5 million cap hit. With Swayman poised for a salary increase, shedding Ullmark’s contract could provide the Bruins with additional cap space to pursue their offseason objectives.

Indeed, the upcoming summer is poised to be quite eventful for the Bruins. With ample cap space at their disposal, they have the opportunity to make at least one notable addition to their roster. Fans will eagerly anticipate seeing how the Bruins utilize their resources and what moves they make to further strengthen their team.
