Carlton coach Michael Voss has suggested that star midfielder Sam Walsh may make his return to senior football as soon as next week.

Walsh has been contending with a persistent back injury since undergoing major surgery over 15 months ago. However, there is encouraging news for him and Carlton supporters, as Walsh’s comeback could be just days away, with the Blues set to face Adelaide at Marvel Stadium in round five.

Voss has sparked excitement and anticipation regarding Walsh’s long-awaited return.

“Sam’s progress is quite promising. He’s back in full training,” Voss informed the media on Friday.

“If he completes the upcoming week’s main training without any setbacks, we expect him to play.

“We’ve exercised patience, and hopefully, we’ll witness his return next week.”

However, before the Blues can entertain thoughts of Walsh’s comeback, they’re focused on their upcoming round four showdown against Fremantle as part of the Gather Round event in Adelaide on Saturday evening.

Last year, Carlton suffered a humiliating defeat to the Crows during the inaugural Gather Round, losing by a significant margin of 56 points.

They’re determined to rectify their previous shortcomings come Saturday night, aiming to preserve their undefeated record.

“It’s our responsibility to ensure we approach the game with the right mindset,” Voss emphasized. “We won’t take any moment lightly. Building reliability and consistency is key. We must be prepared to win under any circumstances.”

Reflecting on skipper Patrick Cripps’ return after the birth of his daughter, Koda, Voss noted, “He’s in high spirits, and the timing of Koda’s arrival couldn’t have been better. He’s eager and prepared for the upcoming match.”

The Blues, who remain undefeated in the 2024 season, are set to take on the Dockers, who also boast an unblemished record thus far.
