Despite facing tough competition from the Atlanta Braves and potentially needing to overcome the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Philadelphia Phillies are still considered strong contenders for a World Series run in 2024. While the season has started relatively slowly, things are beginning to pick up.

Currently, the Phillies trail the Braves by just two games in the NL East division and hold a secure position in a wild-card spot. However, it’s premature to dwell on postseason scenarios at this stage. We’re only about ten percent into the season, with plenty of baseball left to be played.

It’s always a good time to discuss how the Phillies might enhance their roster for another shot at the World Series. Making a bold move at the trade deadline is an ideal opportunity to signal their intentions, and this year, the Phillies should definitely be looking to bolster their team. According to one insider, there’s a clear direction they’re considering.

In an analysis for ESPN, David Schoenfield highlighted shortstop Starlyn Caba, the Phillies’ fifth-ranked prospect, as a potential trade candidate for the team at the deadline.

Schoenfield notes that the Phillies have a history of trading prospects to strengthen their roster, and with the possibility of moving Brandon Marsh to center field, acquiring a power hitter for left field could significantly benefit them in the latter part of the season.

With a strong performance in rookie ball in 2023, including a .301 batting average, a .486 on-base percentage, and 16 stolen bases, Starlyn Caba has showcased his potential.

However, with Trea Turner likely to secure the shortstop position for the Phillies in the coming years, there appears to be a bottleneck for Caba to break into the team’s lineup.

Given this situation, Caba emerges as an ideal prospect for the Phillies to consider trading, particularly in exchange for an additional bat to bolster their left field position.
