Kansas experienced a setback in their incoming freshman class as Labaron Philon, ranked #30 overall in the 2024 class, requested to be released from his commitment to play basketball for the Jayhawks.

Philon, who gained recognition as one of the top point guards among high school seniors, demonstrated his skills at the Link Academy (MO) where he averaged 11.7 points and 4.3 assists per game for a nationally ranked top-10 team last season.

Given Dajuan Harris’s decision to return and the expectation that Elmarko Jackson will also come back to Mount Oread, Labaron Philon’s playing time this season might have been limited. Additionally, with the arrival of competent ball handlers like Zeke Mayo, Riley Kugel, and AJ Storrs via the transfer portal, Kansas will have sufficient options to handle the ball and allow Harris to get valuable rest on the bench, ensuring the team’s strength for the crucial period in March 2025.

Labaron Philon Decommits from Kansas

Rumors suggest that Bill Self could continue to recruit players from the transfer portal, further bolstering the team’s roster. With the recent additions and the presence of two top-30 recruits in Flory Bidunga and Rakease Passmore, Kansas is poised to become a formidable contender both within the Big 12 conference and on the national stage. Additionally, any school that lands Labaron Philon will acquire a talented player with significant potential.
