Before officially announcing his commitment on Instagram, he hinted at it by including “DB @umichfootball” in his bio. Now it’s confirmed — former Tennessee safety Wesley Walker has committed to the Michigan Wolverines, as he announced on Friday morning.

Walker is the second defensive back to commit to Michigan in the last two days, joining former Albany cornerback Aamir Hall.

A well-traveled player, Walker brings five seasons of experience from three different programs. He began his college career at Georgia Tech in 2019, transferred to Tennessee in 2022, and briefly moved to Louisville this offseason before deciding on Michigan.

Walker has had notable success in the SEC over the past two seasons. In 2022, he recorded 36 tackles, one sack, one interception, and four pass breakups. He improved his performance last season with 53 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and two pass breakups. Additionally, according to PFF, he did not allow a single touchdown on 349 coverage snaps in 2023.

Following Rod Moore’s injury this spring, Michigan needed to add depth to their safety position. While they still have Makari Paige and Quinten Johnson, the backups — Brandyn Hillman, Zeke Berry, and others — lack substantial experience.

Fortunately, Walker brings a wealth of experience and should be a valuable asset to the Michigan defense this fall, providing guidance to the less experienced players on the roster.

This upcoming season will be Walker’s final year of college eligibility.
