Seventh-year quarterback Jack Tuttle stepped in last Saturday when Michigan was down 14-0, replacing starter Alex Orji. Tuttle led the Wolverines on three consecutive scoring drives, giving them a 17-14 lead, though two fourth-quarter turnovers ultimately led to Michigan’s second loss of the season, leaving the team at 4-2.
Despite the turnovers, Tuttle revived the offense, completing a key 22-yard pass to Amorion Walker, which provided a spark the offense hadn’t seen all year. While his mistakes proved costly, his ability to move the ball forced Washington’s defense to adjust.
Reflecting on the game, Tuttle expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play. “It’s a blessing to be back out there for such a great university,” he said. Acknowledging his errors, Tuttle took responsibility, saying, “There were a few plays I wish I had back that could have changed the outcome, but I’m going to learn from those mistakes and be better for it.” He admitted that the game was his first time practicing with the team in a while and that he had received some first-team reps leading up to the game. After Tuttle’s performance, coach Sherrone Moore confirmed that Tuttle would start in Michigan’s upcoming game against Illinois in two weeks.
During Michigan’s bye week, Tuttle shared his goals: “This week is about getting more reps with the guys, learning from my mistakes, and continuing to improve. We’re still finding our identity as a team, but we’ve learned something from each game. This week, we’re putting those lessons together, working on a formula that works for us, and getting a lot of reps to prepare for the next game.”
