The Philadelphia Eagles may face a significant challenge with the loss of tight end Dallas Goedert, who is expected to miss several weeks due to a hamstring injury. Goedert had been a key playmaker for the Eagles, amassing 301 receiving yards over the first four games of the season. His absence leaves a gap in the team’s offense, especially considering how important the tight end position is to their scheme.

In light of Goedert’s injury, the Eagles must look for alternatives to maintain offensive productivity. Backup tight end Grant Calcaterra is likely to see increased playing time, while recently re-signed C.J. Uzomah, who is currently on the practice squad, might also get the opportunity to step up.

Another potential option for the Eagles is exploring the trade market for a replacement. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell suggested a hypothetical trade involving Cincinnati Bengals veteran tight end Tanner Hudson. According to Barnwell, the Eagles could acquire Hudson in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick, while also receiving a seventh-round pick from the Bengals. Hudson, though not a star, has shown reliability when called upon. He played a key role in the Bengals’ offense last season, particularly when backup quarterback Jake Browning was filling in for Joe Burrow. Hudson caught 22 of 39 passes for 1.6 yards per route run during that time, suggesting he could be a steady contributor in a multi-tight end set.

Considering the Eagles lead the league in 12 personnel usage—where two tight ends are on the field—Hudson could be a useful addition to help offset the loss of Goedert. Given his experience and familiarity with playing under pressure, he could provide stability as a pass-catching option, especially for an offense that thrives on flexibility and varying formations.

Overall, while the Eagles are faced with a difficult situation in losing Goedert, they have several options to manage the impact. Whether it’s giving more responsibility to existing players like Calcaterra and Uzomah, or pursuing a trade for someone like Hudson, Philadelphia has the potential to mitigate the loss and keep their offense moving forward.
