The Los Angeles Chargers have several potential options if they choose to make moves before Tuesday’s trade deadline, with needs including wide receiver depth, defensive line reinforcements, and secondary support. However, to become a legitimate contender in the AFC West, improving their offensive line is essential.

The 2024 first-round pick, Joe Alt, was a strong initial step toward strengthening the unit, but more pieces are required to build a solid front. This is why reports linking the Chargers to Chicago Bears guard Nate Davis sparked interest when it emerged he was available for trade discussions.

Securing an offensive lineman mid-season can be extremely difficult, yet Davis’ potential availability makes it tough for the Chargers not to consider their options. According to ESPN insiders, Chicago might facilitate a trade by covering a portion of Davis’ remaining $5 million in guaranteed salary for the year, which could make a deal more appealing.

While acquiring Davis would be more of a stopgap solution than a long-term fix, it could still be valuable for the Chargers. This season, Davis has started just two games for the Bears and conceded one sack. His overall performance has not been stellar, reflected in a low PFF grade of 53.6. Nonetheless, given the Chargers’ need for offensive line support, Davis’ addition could still help stabilize a struggling unit, even if only temporarily.
