The Seattle Seahawks have announced the signing of former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback John Rhys Plumlee as part of a series of roster moves on Wednesday. Plumlee, who had been released by the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad on November 12, is now getting another shot in the NFL.

Initially joining the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of UCF, Plumlee was drawn to Pittsburgh because they offered him the opportunity to compete as a quarterback. During training camp, he showcased his versatility by spending time at quarterback, working as a kick returner, and even filling in as a wide receiver. Despite his efforts, Plumlee was released during the final roster cuts.

After his departure from Pittsburgh, Plumlee received multiple offers and ultimately opted to join Jacksonville’s practice squad. There, he focused exclusively on playing quarterback, the position he remains determined to pursue before considering any potential position switch.

Plumlee’s ambitions as a signal-caller are clear. He is eager to prove his capabilities under center in an actual game setting before resigning himself to a transition to another position, such as wide receiver. Comparisons have been drawn to players like Julian Edelman, who successfully switched roles in their professional careers, but Plumlee hopes to establish himself as a quarterback first.

With the Seahawks, Plumlee has a chance to continue his development and possibly carve out a role, either as a backup quarterback or in another capacity. This signing highlights the Seahawks’ willingness to explore unique talents and adds depth to their roster.
