The Dallas Cowboys have decided not to make a change in their head coaching position, opting to retain Mike McCarthy for the upcoming 2024 season, according to sources reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday. Despite recent silence from Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones regarding McCarthy’s future, the decision has been made to continue with the current head coach. McCarthy, who has one year remaining on his contract, has achieved a 42-25 record in four regular seasons with the Cowboys, securing three consecutive 12-win campaigns and NFC East titles in 2021 and 2023. However, the team has only recorded one playoff victory under McCarthy’s leadership. Several Dallas players, including quarterback Dak Prescott and left guard Tyler Smith, expressed support for McCarthy after the recent wild-card loss to the Green Bay Packers, emphasizing their appreciation for his commitment to their health and well-being throughout the season. Prescott acknowledged the business aspect of coaching decisions but credited McCarthy for the team’s success and emphasized the goal of winning the Super Bowl as the standard for the league and the Cowboys.
