In the upcoming 2024 season, the Denver Broncos are poised for a significant quarterback shakeup, parting ways with Russell Wilson after two disappointing seasons. Despite trading a substantial amount of draft assets to the Seattle Seahawks to acquire Wilson, the move backfired as the Broncos failed to make the postseason in both instances.

The Broncos attempted to support Wilson by bringing in head coach Sean Payton, a Super Bowl-winning coach, but even Payton couldn’t reverse the decline of the former superstar. Despite the guaranteed money left on Wilson’s contract, the Broncos seem prepared to absorb the dead cap hit and seek his replacement, either through free agency or the 2024 NFL Draft.

Fortunately, Denver may have options among solid bridge quarterbacks available in free agency if they choose not to draft Wilson’s successor this year. Benjamin Allbright suggests a potential strategy for the Broncos, proposing on his personal Twitter account that they might consider someone like Jimmy Garoppolo as their starter for the upcoming season.

“Hmmm. I don’t think they go QB early at this point. So I’ll guess Jimmy G as starter next year and draft Michael Pratt,” Allbright tweeted.

While Garoppolo is currently under contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, he seems likely to be on the way out following significant changes within the team. Interim head coach Antonio Pierce benched Garoppolo in favor of rookie Aidan O’Connell. With a new regime in place, Garoppolo becomes a prime candidate for being cut or traded before the next season. If he becomes available, the Broncos could present an intriguing choice for Garoppolo.

With a fresh leadership in charge, there is a strong likelihood that Garoppolo could be released or traded before the next season.

If he becomes accessible, the Broncos would present a compelling option.
