As per a person with knowledge of the transaction who spoke with The Associated Press on Monday, Steve Belichick has agreed to take over as Washington’s defensive coordinator under new coach Jedd Fisch.

The source granted anonymity to the AP interview since no formal announcement has been made.

The son of legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick, who spent 12 seasons alongside his father on the New England Patriots staff, will play collegiate football for the first time. For the previous five seasons, Steve Belichick called defensive plays for the Patriots. During his time with the Patriots, he also served as an outside linebackers and secondary/safeties coach.

The 36-year-old Steve Belichick and Fisch, who coached New England’s quarterbacks in 2020, will get back together.

Fisch moved to Arizona as head coach after leaving New England. He departed from the Wildcats last month to pursue the head coaching position at Washington when Kalen DeBoer relocated to Alabama. Brennan Carroll, the offensive coordinator at Washington under Fisch, is also the son of  Pete Carroll, a former coach of the Seattle Seahawks.
