Fremantle is gearing up for a surprising trade raid on Richmond, targeting a star player. They are poised to entice Western Australian native Liam Baker back home as his contract expires at the end of next season. However, their primary focus is now on Shai Bolton. Despite Bolton being contracted until the end of 2028, the Dockers have made an ambitious bid to recruit him.

Bolton, originally from Western Australia, is reportedly considering the offer, according to 9News reporter Xander McGuire.

Fremantle’s trade prospects are bolstered by their possession of three first-round draft picks (from Collingwood, Port Adelaide, and their own), along with a second-round and a fourth-round pick.

Liam Baker is yet to sign a contract extension with Richmond.

This potential trade could benefit Richmond if Baker and Bolton seek moves back to Western Australia, aiding the Victorian club’s rebuilding efforts. However, losing Bolton, 25, and Baker, 26, could raise concerns for Richmond’s rebuild plans.

This news coincides with the likelihood of Tigers veteran Dustin Martin retiring at the end of the season.

Martin will be absent from Richmond’s round 13 match against the Crows at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.

As a result, the three-time premiership winner and three-time Norm Smith medalist will play his 300th game after Richmond’s bye, in a matchup against Hawthorn at the MCG.
